Because of this course, my wife and I have mostly turned to painting together at the dining room table instead of watching Netflix, even though we knew nothing about painting when we started. Nigel was responsive to our questions and feedback as we moved through the course. This course is worth 100 times (at least) what it costs, and I could not recommend it more strongly. --- I just finished building my first pochade box because I feel like after three months of engaging with the material in this course I have enough understanding and skill and mostly confidence that I really want to get out before it gets too cold to paint the warm yellow and red leaves that are still on the tree against the cool blue sky. I can honestly say that three months ago, I would have had no clue where to start creating that kind of art. From my wife's perspective, who did a lot of drawing a child - she never even considered painting because colour was just a mystery to her. Now it's like her ability to express her art has had a whole new vista opened to it. Nigel takes you step-by-step in the very basics of colour theory in very clear and understandable ways with exercises that perfectly highlight the concept being worked on. These concepts go from colour value, hue, and temperature to a split colour palette, which would have been total gibberish to me prior to the course. One day, my wife baked some bread and put it on the counter. It ended up turning into a still-life composition reference photo-taking day because we just see things totally differently now. I have never appreciated walking through a park as much as I do now. Now, to be fair, I am a total beginner, but when I bring these ideas up to some of my other friends who are artists, it's like I was able to skip the first three years of their art journey of learning the very basics through this course. It really blows my mind that this stuff, apparently, isn't the very foundation of arts programs in the university. My wife and I are both trained musicians. Music has a very structured way of learning the basics so that each progressive step has the least amount of resistance in learning that new skill. The course really did remind us of how we developed our musicianship. I keep going back to certain videos as a reminder, and things get solidified with each viewing. Can't wait for the next course and Thank you, Nigel. This is truly something special.
